The beach of Almirida is located 15km from the city of Chania. It is a seaside village, located east of the northern district of Apokoronas, with two beaches with sand. The village is situated between Kalives and Plaka villages. Near the village, is located the ancient city Ippokoroneion. This was one of the two ports of ancient Aptera. In this beach also landed the Arab conquerors of Crete in 826 and 1000 years later the Egyptian invaders, allies of the Turks.
