The Historical Archive of Crete was founded in 1920 by N. Papadakis and is located at 20 Sfakianakis and housed in a beautiful neoclassical building. Considered the most important file after the General State Archives. He has substantial library of 6,500 volumes, including rare books from the Byzantine, Venetian and Turkish times, large file release almost all Cretan literature since 1831.Includes a rare and important collection of approximately 700,000 historical documents of the 19th and 20th century. This archival material of the Cretan government, records of the Battle of Crete and the German occupation. Also, you can see the full record of the Cretan Press from 1831 until today, a rich photographic record of the century and a library with rare editions from 1500 to today.
In the same building there is a museum, history and folklore, with a large collection of relics of the history and struggles of Crete.
