Maritime Museum


The Maritime Museum was founded in 1973 and hosted at the Venetian fortress of Bastion. Its purpose is to highlight the Greek naval tradition. The exhibits come from all historical periods and include sketches and paintings of ships of every era, models with representations of war events, nautical gear and photos of the fighters.

At the entrance of the fortress on 1 of December 1913 raised the Greek flag sealing the “ASSOCIATION OF CRETE” with Mother Greece.

The museum consists of ground floor and upper floor, and has a total area of ​​840 sq. This area includes approximately 2500 exhibits, including ship models, various instruments and appliances, paintings, artifacts, objects retrieved from the bottom, shells, photographs etc. and is divided into 13 sections, covering all chronological periods.
