The War Museum is located at the intersection of I Sfakianakis and Tzanakakis adjacent to Municipal Park. The building was Italian barracks was built in 1870 designed by Italian architect Makouzo. The rare photographs and unique historical relics housed in the Museum, exhibiting the unique contribution of the Cretans Macedon (1903 – 1922) in the Balkan Wars (1912 – 13), the Asia Minor Campaign (1919 – 1922), the first and Second World War and throughout the occupation (1941 – 45).
The War Museum, as part of fulfilling its mission in cooperation with local agencies in the city of Chania, founded the Annex, which opened in July 1995.
